Rotation 7 Site Evaluation Reflection

For this rotation, both of my evaluations were conducted via Zoom with Professor Davidson. I enjoyed having Professor Davidson as my evaluator this time around because not only did she teach concepts of geriatrics during the didactic portion of the program, but she also provided a week of geriatrics online instruction during the online sessions while we were off rotations due to the pandemic. During the evaluations we were able to reflect on the material we covered during those times and how it applied to the rotation.

For the first evaluation, I presented a patient with osteomyelitis of the left foot who was admitted to the long-term care facility for subacute rehabilitation during his treatment with IV antibiotics via a PICC line. During my presentation, Dr. Davidson brought up a lot of great points concerning my write-up, particularly in relation to my patient’s history of IV drug abuse. In addition to the presentation, I also presented 5 drug cards and discussed my experience at the facility so far. Being the first person in the class back to the long-term care rotation, I was initially concerned about how I was doing in the post-COVID-19 environment, but I was really put at ease after the evaluation.

For the second evaluation, I presented an asymptomatic HIV positive patient whose main area of concern was a discharge plan who I had seen for a monthly visit. I chose to present this patient because she was not the typical picture of a long-term care patient. In addition, I also presented 5 drug cards and an article relating to the patient I chose.

These evaluations were definitely some of the most helpful of all my rotations because of the feedback provided. I will be able to take the considerations addressed in these evaluations into the rest of my rotations and my professional practice.
