Reflection on Creating the E-Portfolio

After creating e-portfolios through both Blackboard and CUNY Academic Commons, I prefer using the CUNY Academic Commons website.

Creating the e-portfolio through Blackboard was much simpler in that I simply had to create the portfolio and upload each artifact. Using the CUNY Academic Commons, however, required more skill and knowledge of using WordPress; I have created WordPress websites in the past in my undergraduate career and through my research lab, so it was very familiar to me to create an e-portfolio website on it.

Even though the CUNY Academic Commons website is more difficult to use in its beginning stages, I find the layout more appropriate for an e-portfolio because it can be formatted in such a way that every item in the portfolio can be located very easily and organized logically, whereas the Blackboard portfolio is more restrictive in its formatting. I imagine that in the future when my e-portfolio becomes more crowded with various artifacts collected through the didactic and clinical years of the program, the CUNY Academic Commons website will be easier to navigate.

I also enjoyed that I was able to customize the theme of the CUNY Academic Commons website in whatever way I wanted. While that is not necessarily extremely important to the e-portfolio itself, I appreciate that I can change it to reflect a specific aesthetic.
